There are two types of backlinks, the “Follow” and “NoFollow” links.
Follow links or also commonly referred to as “do-follow” links are backlinks (inbound links) that notify search engine crawlers to follow the hyperlink. This type of inbound link signals a pertinent and useful link to crawlers.
Technically, it's like the writer is vouching for the linked site and telling readers “Hey, I found this page helpful, you might want to check it out too!"
Dofollow links tell Google the linking website trusts your domain, which can help your rankings. With each following link from other pages, a linked page receives “votes” for credibility. The more votes you get, the more likely you will improve your website’s domain authority, or domain rating, which in turn, helps to improve your keyword ranking.
NoFollow links, on the other hand, are links that do not pass authority on to the website it is linking to. They tell search engines not to pass link equity ( referred to as “link juice”) through the link.
Many people believe that nofollow links have no SEO value but acquiring nofollow links is not that bad. Although you don’t get the full SEO advantage of a do-follow link, no-follow links can still generate traffic and exposure to your website. At the same time, nofollow backlinks can add diversification to your backlink profile.
