Coming up with new content ideas that stand out can be very difficult. With over 4.4 million blog posts published each day, your content is easily overlooked amongst the sea of content constantly flooding the web.
Using our Keyword Research, Ubersuggest can help you discover outstanding new content ideas that your viewers will want to read and share.
Begin your Content Ideas Search
To begin, navigate to your Project Dashboard. On the left side menu, under Keyword Research, click Content Ideas.
Enter the keyword phrase for your blog subject matter in the search bar, then click Search. Your keyword phrase should be a specific keyword that you’re targeting for your audience. In our example, we’re using ice cream!
Our Content Ideas report shows you some of the top blog posts currently on the web, broken down by:
- Estimated monthly visits from Google
- Total backlinks
- Facebook shares
- Repins on Pinterest
- Reddit shares
Clicking the Filter button at the top right corner of the report opens a dialog box where you can further filter your search by including or excluding words in the page title and adding a minimum and/or maximum number of Pinterest or Facebook shares.
Once you’re ready to fully review your report, you can use the Export to CSV button to export your chosen links to a spreadsheet or Copy to Clipboard button to copy the links so you can paste them into a document of your choice.
Using the Information from your Content Ideas Report
Now that you’ve got some links to choose from in your report, let’s get to work on finding the best content for your new blog post!
Go through your list of content ideas and pick one of the top blog posts that you’d like to have on your site. To decide what’s appropriate, look for:
- A good number of estimated visits (at least 75)
- A decent total backlink count (at least 10)
- A good amount of social shares.
Important Note: Make sure you’re not picking content from a brand that’s much bigger than yours. For example, you won’t want to pick content written by sites everyone knows like CNN because it’s not hard for content to become popular when you already have millions of visitors.
For the purposes of this guide, we’ll use this post on Dog Ice cream.
You’ve chosen a post – so now, let’s rewrite the post and improve it by using the Skyscraper Technique.
The Skyscraper Technique is a content writing strategy where you find content that is obviously link-worthy (as we’ve just done with our Content Ideas report) and then rewrites the material to improve it by using the knowledge you’ve gained using Ubersuggest to reach out to the right audience.
The Skyscraper Technique is so named because your goal is to beat other blogs covering the same material and get higher shares, backlinks, rankings, and view count.
Walking down the street, do you notice the 4th tallest building, or do your eyes go to the tallest skyscraper on the horizon?
We’ll help you build your blog content to be the most eye-catching and attention-grabbing, to make sure you get the interest you need and deserve.
To ensure your blog post is skyscraper worthy, ensure that you’re using similar keywords in your blog post.
Click on the Keywords button beside the blog post you’ve chosen to rewrite.
This will open a list of keywords that this blog post focuses on.
Go through all of the keywords and keep clicking the Next button as these are the keywords you’ll want to mention in your blog post.
Once you do that, you’ll see a long list of keywords that drive traffic to that specific page. Go through all of the keywords and export them to CSV.
Setting Up Backlinks for Your New Blogpost
Now that you’ve created your skyscraper blog post, you'll want to reach out to as many sites as you can that have linked to the original piece that you’ve improved upon.
To find what sites have linked to the post, click the Links button beside the original blog post.
Once your article is up, go to each website and reach out to them through their contact page or through an email address that you find on their site. Let them know about your article, how it’s better, and how their audience will enjoy reading it.
You’ll find that many of these sites will link to you, which will boost your Google rankings.
It really is that simple.
