Payment Declined for Users in India
The bank has declined the recurring Ubersuggest subscription payment because it was unable to receive authorization from the user.
In efforts to improve the safety and security of card transactions in India, new recurring payment rules have been introduced. From October 1st, 2021, all recurring payments require user authorization by One Time Password. Read more about changes implemented by the Reserve Bank of India here:
If the Ubersuggest subscription is paid by credit or debit card, the bank will send a notification before the recurring subscription payment. Each Ubersuggest subscription payment must be authorized before the payment date.
It is recommended to consider changing the payment method to a card issued by HDFC, ICICI, or Axis. Ubersuggest users with cards from these banks have reported a better experience when approving recurring monthly subscription payments.
How Do I Skip the Monthly Authorization for My Subscription?
If the subscription is being paid in USD, users are encouraged to switch to PayPal. PayPal will automatically deduct the monthly payments without requiring prior authorization from the bank.
To change the payment method from Card Payments to PayPal:
1. Log in to the Ubersuggest account: https://app.neilpatel.com/login
2. Navigate to Account and Billing Settings: https://app.neilpatel.com/en/settings/account_billing
3. Under Payment Method, click Update.
4. Select PayPal
4. Follow instructions on PayPal and authorize payments
5. The next recurring subscription payment will be deducted from the card via PayPal
Change the Payment Method to a Card Issued Outside India
If users have a card that has been issued outside India, they will not have to authorize payments every month:
1. Log in to the Ubersuggest account: https://app.neilpatel.com/login
2. Navigate the Account and Billing Settings: https://app.neilpatel.com/en/settings/account_billing
3. Under Payment Method, click Update
4. Select Card
5. Enter card details
6. Click Save Changes
The next recurring subscription payment will be deducted from the new card
Change the payment method to a card issued by HDFC, ICICI, or Axis.
Ubersuggest users with cards issued by these banks report better user experience when approving recurring monthly subscription payments.
How to Pay My Outstanding Balance?
If the bank declined the recurring monthly payment and authorization couldn’t be completed in advance, users are advised to try using a different card. This will allow the payment of the current balance with Ubersuggest and ensure continued use of the tool:
- Log in to the Ubersuggest account: https://app.neilpatel.com/login
- Navigate to Account and Billing Settings.
- Under Payment Method, click Update.
- Select Card
- Enter card details
- Click Save Changes
The next recurring subscription payment will have to be authorized by the user directly with their bank using a one-time password. If the payment doesn't go through again, consider switching to a different card by following the exact instructions.
Is There a Workaround?
There is one workaround that some of our users used, and it somehow worked.
It is by requesting to raise the cap for domestic online payments to a certain amount. For example, the transaction has been successfully processed to INR 20,000 from their previous limit of INR 3,000. Ensure the limit exceeds the amount of the purchase for it to work. One of our users also said that increasing the limit for domestic cards is necessary for payments within India using Indian cards.
