How to Find Out Competitor’s Keywords?
To learn about competitor's best-ranked keywords, users can go to the Similar Websites report.
Type in a competitor´s domain, ideally, add a popular one, the more popular the competitor the more keywords will be shown in the report.
NOTE: it´s important to highlight that subdomains are counted as separate sites.
The graph shown above shows the most relevant competitors of the domain searched and the estimated monthly traffic each one got in the last 12 months.
Users can click on the “more domains” drop-down and unselect some of the competitors or even add more that may not be listed:
Below the graph, users will find data reports in a long table that will show the competitors´ domains, the number of common keywords both rank for (competitor and user´s searched domain), keyword gaps (the keywords competitors´ rank for that the user´s domain don’t), their estimated traffic, and the number of backlinks that the user´s competitors have.
At the top of the table, users will find two options, Export to CSV and Copy to Clipboard to get the table in a CSV file or the list of competitors´ URLs.
Common Keywords & Keywords Gap
To find out which are the common keywords, or the keywords gap click the “view all” button under that table column, and the list will be displayed.
When drilling down on this table, it´s important to pay attention to volume, position, estimated visits, and CPC.
- Volume tells how many times a keyword is searched.
- Position tells where the competition is ranking on Google.
- Estimated visits break down roughly how much traffic they get from that keyword.
- CPC tells how expensive a keyword is through advertising.
Generally, our users can also find out if they are ranking higher than the competitors or vice versa.
Common Keywords
This report is useful because it shows which keywords our users are focusing on that the competitors may also be focusing on.
Keywords Gap
This shows the keywords the competition ranks for that user´s website doesn’t which allows users to know the potential keywords they could add to the current website´s content to increase the traffic and conversions.
Within the table just keep clicking the “next 10” button to keep seeing more keywords or click “export to CSV” to download all the keywords.
Now users have an easy way to find lucrative keywords that they may want to rank for.
How to Track Competitors on the Project?
By knowing which are the most relevant competitors of a given website a user can start tracking them under the account´s projects.
Users can go to the Project Dashboard. Scroll to the very bottom and select Add Competitors to Track.
In that section, competitor's websites can be added with specific languages and locations to track. Competitor Tracking will generate a report like the Similar Websites report.
