How to Check Rankings
Discovering how keywords perform over time is made easy with Ubersuggest's Rank Tracking feature. To begin this insightful journey, creating a project is essential. Once set up, users gain access to a wealth of data, including weekly email notifications for monthly users, allowing them to track improvements or changes in keyword rankings.
A key feature within the Dashboard is the Rank Tracking report. This report provides a snapshot of a site's ranking, showcasing the performance of specific keywords over time. Maintaining a project ensures continuous access to historical ranking data.
For a detailed view of the keywords, users can navigate to the project referenced in the Rank Tracking report. Here, visual indicators such as arrows and graphs help assess keyword performance trends. Clicking on the "See Trend" button reveals even more insightful details.
It is important to note that adding a keyword does not guarantee immediate data visibility. Certain criteria must be met, such as the presence of the tracked keyword within the site's content. The Rank Tracking report exclusively displays data for keywords indexed by Google on the site.
If a "not ranked" dash appears in the report, users can refer to the help article for guidance on resolving such instances. Ubersuggest's Rank Tracking feature empowers users with comprehensive insights, ensuring they stay informed about keyword rankings and website performance.

How to Read the Rank Tracking Report
The top section of the Rank Tracking report includes frequency options such as Last 2 Weeks, Last Month, and a custom timeframe selection. These options allow users to analyze keyword performance over different periods. Additionally, users can choose location settings and select between two tracking types: Desktop and Mobile, ensuring a comprehensive view of rankings across different devices.
Right below that, two key features run in parallel: Average Position and Current Search Result Rankings.
- Average Position provides the average ranking of all tracked keywords within the project, offering a quick overview of overall performance.
- Current Search Result Rankings breaks down keyword rankings into categories: Top 3, Top 10, Top 100, and keywords that are not ranking within the selected timeframe.
These insights help users assess keyword performance trends and identify opportunities for improvement in their Rank Tracking strategy.
It's important to note that adding or removing keywords may impact the average position and current search result rankings calculations.
As of December 2023, a change in logic was implemented for calculating rank changes between two periods ("from" and "to"). Now, Ubersuggest considers only the first and last recorded positions within the selected timeframe.
For example, if a user checks rankings over 7 days, but data is only available from the 2nd day, Ubersuggest will calculate the average and rankings based on the available data. The variation displayed will be determined using the earliest and latest data points, regardless of any missing data.
Additionally, when all locations are selected, there will be no changes displayed in the current search result rankings. To track ranking changes effectively, users must select a specific project location.
Data Tracking Duration
The Rank Tracking feature stores keyword data for a maximum period of three years. After this timeframe, deleting and recreating the project will reset the data tracking.
Importing Keywords Using a CSV File
The users can upload keywords that they want to track using Ubersuggest’s spreadsheet template, or they can use their own CSV file. Ubersuggest will search for keywords in a column titled "Keywords". To upload the CSV, they need to click on "add keywords" while in Rank Tracking and select "Import from CSV".
How to Remove Keywords From a Project
To manage tracked keywords in the Rank Tracking report, users can either select all keywords by checking the first box or choose specific keywords of interest from the list.
Once at least one keyword is selected, the "Delete" button be enabled, allowing users to remove selected keywords as needed.
Note: If multiple locations are being tracked, this process must be repeated for each specific location. Users can switch between locations at the top of the Rank Tracking report to ensure changes are applied accordingly.
Why the Ranked Keywords Show No Data
When selecting a date range that precedes the day a keyword was added, no data will be available for that keyword. For example, if a project initially included a few keywords and new ones were added months later, choosing a date range that covers the period before the new keywords were introduced will result in no data being displayed for them. In such cases, the tool will show a message indicating that no data is available.
Additionally, the tool can display data for newly added keywords within a 30-day window. If a ranked keyword is added today, instead of showing "no data," the tool will display its current position, ensuring users can track rankings without delays.
